About Us

As a kid growing up in the 70s, I loved the book and record Read-Alongs featuring Super Heroes and Disney characters. It always seemed like a perfect combination. I graduated to listening to Kiss, Iron Maiden, Miles Davis and eventually, Bad Brains and Black Flag on vinyl. I was the nerd that read the liner notes and loved staring at the album art while listening. In the late 80s I started my first label, releasing DIY punk and hardcore tapes from my bedroom. Then, in the 90s, I was able to start releasing 7”s for bands like Clutch, Release, Subzero and Lament to name a few. My love for the vinyl format never faded, and I love it even more in the days of streaming. Then, about 12 years ago, I had a vision for a children’s book with a 7” like the ones I loved as a kid except written by a known musician, and the record would not only contain the narration but also a song to go along with the story. As a parent, I wanted to give this book to my kids but also wanted one for myself. Time went by and I eventually went for it. Anthony Green is one my favorite musicians of all time (and all the kids loved him) and he had written 4 songs for his kids. These were only released on bandcamp and streaming platforms. I had a vision to take one of those songs, Cat Song, and turn it into a book that appealed to kids and adults and, of course, it had to have the 7” included. I teamed up with one of my favorite illustrators, Susan Crawford, to bring the vision to life. My Cat’s In A Band With Me was born. I also thought all 4 kids' songs were the perfect companion to the book, and we’re releasing the Let’s Start A Band 12” EP at the same time as the book. We also created some fun merch to go along with it all. And here we are. Our first releases are launching on November 21, 2025, and hopefully you’re here now to pick one up. I can’t predict the future, but if these first releases are successful, I hope to continue with an ongoing series of books and albums in the future. There are so many ideas floating around in my head. Stay tuned…

I’d also like to thank my wife and family for their patience and understanding as I manically worked to make this a reality. I couldn’t have done it without their support. From Violet’s proofreading (they found a mistake) to Blake checking the test pressings (he found a missing page in the narration). And, of course, Tracy for helping with the million details of getting a company founded, getting book distribution figured out and helping with the launch events. Thank you and love you.
